The Dambadeniya Kingdom was a medieval kingdom in Sri Lanka, which existed from 1220 to 1293. It was founded by King Vijayabahu III after he defeated the Chola invaders and established his capital in Dambadeniya, located in the present-day North Western Province of Sri Lanka.
The kingdom reached its zenith under the rule of King Parakramabahu II, who expanded its territory and consolidated its power. Dambadeniya was renowned for its cultural and religious advancements, particularly in the fields of literature and architecture.
However, internal strife and external invasions ultimately led to the decline of the Dambadeniya Kingdom. It was eventually succeeded by the Gampola Kingdom in 1293. Despite its relatively short existence, the Dambadeniya Kingdom played a significant role in shaping the history and culture of Sri Lanka.
