Shirley Amarasinghe (1913 - 1980)

His term as Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to India was when he attained one f his most significant achievements: the Sirima - Shastri Pact. He Was elected President of the genaral Assembly of teh United Nations, in 1971.Amarasinhe was also the pioneering spirit behind the UN Conference on the Sea bed, and later on the Law of the Sea.

A playwright who sought to revive indigenous dramatic traditions, Dr. Sarachchandra began his career as a teacher. He wrote Maname and Sinhabahu, two of thebest loved plays in Sri lanka. In literature, he introduced standards of criticism and even authored some books.

Sirimavo Bandaranayake (1916 - )

As Premier, she made history as the world 's 1st woman prime minister. She was one of the members of the Non-Aligned Movement, in 1965. She has become a leader of international stature, on par with her distinguished husband, and received equal international recorgnition for statemanship.

A foremost writer of Science fiction,with particular reference to outer space. Sir Arthur C. Clarke can easily be called the H.G. Wells and Jules Verne of our time. British born Sir Arthur now a distinguished citizen of this country has made Sri Lanka his Home.


Duncan White (1918 - 1999)

Until his arrival in London for the Olympic, White had not had the benefit f a full flet of hudles for training.But not only did Duncan White quality for the Olympic Finals, he crossed the wining line just a fraction of a second after the American, Roy Cocharan.
